Cairo Tours- Things to do in Cairo
 

For visitors with very limited time at their disposal, who cannot therefore follow the detailed Rtes in and around Cairo, the list of Cairo Tours below gives several short itineraries. These Cairo tours, Cairo excursions cover most of the most import ant monuments; each takes a couple of hours or, at most, a half day.
 

1- North of Khan al-Khalili. Within easy reach of this famous market are the large mosque and tomb complexes of Sultans al-Salih Ayyiib, Qalawun, al-Naisr Muhammad and Barquq. The N walls and the Bib al-Futuh

2- Also north of Khan al-Khalili  but further east is the road to the Bib al-Nasr and the N walls. It pases the Musifirkhanah Palace and the beautiful Madrasah of Sultan Baybars II

3- South of Khan al-Khalili, this tour includes al-Azhar Mosque, the dual complex of Sultan al-Ghawri, and a short walk to the Mosque of Sultan Muayyad Shaykh, the S walls and the Bib Zuwaylah

4- The Mosque of lbn Tulun and the Bayt al-Kiridliyyah (Gayer-Anderson Museum) A short walk to the West to the twin tombs of the Amirs Salar and Sangar and East to the dual complex of Amir Shaykhu.

5- The Mosque of Sultan Hasan and the modem Rifai Mosque could be combined with a visit to the Citadel and its associated mosques and palaces

6- A visit to Old Cairo (Misr al-Qadimah) would include the Mosque of Amr and the Fortress of Babylon housing the Coptic Museum and several important Churches.

7-  A little further afield are the Tomb of Imam Shafi and the Hawsh al-Basha in the Southern Cemetery.

8- A visit to the Eastern Cemetery could include the Mosque and tomb complexes of Amir Qurqumas and Sultans Ina, Farag, Barsbay and Qayt-bay.

9- The Egyptian Museum

On the Upper Floor the arrangement is rather different, with some galleries in rough chronological order and others devoted to specific types of objects. In addition there is a special, collection the Treasures of Tutankhamun, which takes up two whole series of galleries in the East and West wings It is advisable to see the Tutankhamun exhibit in toto either at the start or at the end of a visit, rather than in a piecemeal fashion while touring the galleries

These pyramids were constructed between c 2589 and 2530 BC by three of the rulers of the 4 Dyn., Khufu (Cheops), Khafre (Chephren) and Menkaure (Mycerinus), of whom very little is known, though their monuments have survived virtually intact
